Freed Tracey Connelly will learn how to make frocks and curtains as she settles into life at a bail hostel.

Baby P’s mum will also be taught cookery skills and visit the seaside, museums and beauty spots.

She is being held at a hostel for offenders with serious psychological problems. The centre – in the North of England and housing
12 women in single rooms – runs sewing courses as therapy and to provide a skill that might lead to a job.

Residents are taught how to use sewing machines, run up dresses and trousers, make curtains and drapes, and even repair fabrics on sofas and chairs.

A source revealed: “The course lasts several weeks and is pretty intensive. The women find it very therapeutic.”

Connelly, released nine days ago, will spend up to six months at the centre.

The 40-year-old was jailed in 2009 for causing or allowing the death of 17-month-old Peter in Tottenham, north London.

The infant endured months of horrific abuse at the hands of his mum, stepdad Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen. He had suffered 50 injuries at the time.

Daily Star previously reported that Connelly was advised to "lose weight" after she was refused a new identity.

She feared that vigilantes might target her after it was announced that she'd be released without police protection.

“Tracey was fuming when she heard the news," a prison source recently said.

“The prison officers managing her release have told her the best thing she could do to avoid attention would be to change her appearance by drastically losing weight and dying her hair.

“But she’s still a pretty big woman so a huge weight loss is not likely over the coming weeks.”
