‘You’ve told us nothing’ Boris Johnson squirms under tense grilling on row with girlfriend

Boris Johnson was grilled by Iain Dale over the shocking police visit to his yesterday. During a tense five-minute back-and-forth, Mr Johnson refused to reveal why the police were called to his home. The current Tory frontrunner repeatedly dodged the questions about the “screaming row” he had with his girlfriend Carrie Symonds last night.

Ms Symonds is said to have yelled at him “get off me, get out” at the home they share in south London.

Dale first asked: “Why was the police called to your house last night?”

In an awkward response, Mr Johnson dodged the question  during the first Conservative Party hustings in Birmingham.

To applause from the audience, the leadership candidate said: “I don’t think they want to hear about that kind of thing.

“I think they want to hear about my plans for this country and my party.”

The LBC radio host, who was compering the hustings, continued to ask about the incident four more times.

Dale said: “Just answer it – it’s a very simple question.”

The broadcaster was met with loud heckling and boos from the crowd.

He added: “If the police are called to your home, it makes it everyone’s business.”

Trying to change the subject, Mr Johnson said: “People are entitled to ask about me my determination and my character. When I make a promise in politics, I keep that promise and I deliver.”

Mr Dale said: “Does a person’s private life have any bearing on their ability to be Prime Minister.”

Mr Johnson said: “I have the determination and the courage to deliver.”

Fellow broadcaster Julia Hartley-Brewer tweeted in response: “Extraordinary that Boris Johnson is point blank refusing to answer the straightforward and perfectly reasonable question from Iain Dale asking why the police were called to his home last night. And some in the audience are cheering Boris and booing Iain.”
