Little Orchard Montessori Nursery in Ivybridge, Devon alerted Ofsted on July 28 after the child was “able to leave the premises unsupervised for a brief period”. While a report noted the nursery had “met their legal responsibility” to notify Ofsted in the wake of any “significant events”, a regulatory phone call on August 18 found the nursery had not been “meeting some of the requirements”.
Following the call, nursery management are said to have “taken action to put this right”, reports Devon Live.
The nursery has since “updated their risk assessments and reviewed policies and procedures”.
They have also “improved arrangements to support children with SEN [special educational needs] and staff have completed refresher training on health and safety”.
Ofsted’s report concludes that it is now “satisfied with the action the provider took in response to this matter”.
It has also commended the steps the nursery took to minimise the risk of a re-occurrence.
The latest report comes after Little Orchard Montessori Nursery – Woodlands received an overall rating of “Good” following an Ofsted inspection on June 16, 2022.
Inspectors scored the nursery as “Good” in the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management.
The nursery also scored a rating of “Outstanding” for its personal development.
Notes from the inspection describe Little Orchard Montessori Nursery – Woodlands as being a home from home nursery that has a calm atmosphere.
Inspectors also stated that the children were happy and able to demonstrate that they felt “safe and secure”.
Staff were seen as “excellent role models”, having been observed to “take the time to encourage children to talk about their feelings and think of others”.
Little Orchard Montessori Nursery – Woodlands were contacted for comment, but they did not wish to respond.
