Woman escapes closet where 'her boyfriend held her captive for 2 months'
A woman escaped a closet after her boyfriend allegedly held her captive inside of it for two months.
The 40-year-old woman told a man working in Dyersburg, Tennessee, that she had been kidnapped and held for weeks and had just managed to escape, the local police department wrote on Facebook on Monday.
Responding police officers on Saturday found the woman in the area hiding under a new home construction site. She had cuts on her face and appeared to weigh less than 100 pounds.
‘The victim reported that, for approximately two months, she was forced to stay in a closet that was locked by some type of locking device with a cable and was only allowed out of the closet for an hour a day,’ wrote the police department.
She was given ‘very limited food and no bathroom facilities’, the department added.
Cops proceeded to find the vacant residence on Ayers Street where the woman was held and found evidence inside that matched the victim’s account, including human excrement.
The woman said she was locked up by Brenton Bell, 30. She said they were in a relationship but that ‘it turned physically abusive and led to her being held captive’, the police department stated.
After receiving treatment at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg, the woman was released. She is set to receive domestic violence aid.
Meanwhile, Bell is wanted for aggravated kidnapping and remains at large. He is described as about 5-foot-5-inches tall and weighing 150 pounds.
Anyone with information on Bell’s whereabouts is urged to contact the police department.
The woman was discovered a day after police found a missing 13-year-old Texas girl in a man’s shed 1,000 miles away in North Carolina.
‘The juvenile had been communicating with an adult male through a social media chat platform,’ stated the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. ‘The content of the chat was consistent with grooming and enticement.’
She was rescued and a suspect, Jorge Ivan Santos Camacho, 34, was arrested and charged with eight felonies including abduction of a child and felonious restraint.
