Prior to the announcement today, Sadiq Khan said: “Tier 2 is the right and sensible option for London. Londoners have made monumental sacrifices to stop the spread of the virus. And while we can’t afford to be complacent, the latest data is moving further in the right direction.”
Tier 2
From midnight on December 2, Tier 2 restrictions will come into play.
Tier 2 is for areas with a higher or rapidly rising level of infections, and is the middle of the three categories.
Rules in Tier 2 include a ban on meeting anyone you don’t live with indoors, including your home or in the pub, for example.
You can meet anyone outside your household outside, as long as you follow the Rule of Six.

Some London MPs had argued the capital should be split into more localised regions with different lockdown restrictions, as there’s a huge variation in cases between boroughs.
For example, Havering had a weekly infection rate of 360 cases per 100,000 in the week up to November 20 – making it the worst borough.
In contrast, Camden has just 97 cases per 100,000.
Conservative MP for Wimbledon, Stephen Hammond said: “London is a wonderful, diverse city – it’s not just one unit. We ought to look at London on a borough-by-borough or sub-regional basis.
“I don’t see why Londoners should suffer when the rest of the country is being looked at on a more localised basis.”
