Waterloo station evacuated and Jubilee line part suspended after security alert
Waterloo Tube station was evacuated and Tube services disrupted after a suspected suspicious package was discovered this afternoon.
Hundreds were ordered to leave the station immediately when the security alert emerged just before 4pm on Wednesday.
The Jubilee line was part suspended and the Waterloo and City line completely suspended while officers investigated.
Transport for London warned there were also delays on the Northern line.
But the item was thankfully deemed to be non-suspicious and the station – one of the busiest in the capital – is set to be reopened.
A spokesperson from British Transport Police said: ‘Officers were called to Waterloo Underground station at 3.53pm today (15 June) following reports of a suspicious package.
‘The station was evacuated as a precaution while officers attended to assess the item.
‘Thankfully it was deemed to be non-suspicious and the station will shortly be re-opened.’
Officials at Transport for London added: ‘There is no service on the Jubilee Line between London Bridge and Green Park while we respond to a security alert at Waterloo.
‘There are severe delays affecting service on the rest of the line.’
