Detectives investigating the murder of primary school teacher Sabina Nessa have shared CCTV footage of a man they are hunting.

Yesterday afternoon a 38-year-old man was arrested in Lewisham, southeast London, but police are still searching for a second person.

Friends say Sabina, 28, was on her way to a date at a pub when she was attacked shortly after 8.30pm last Friday, just minutes after leaving her front door.

The walk from her home in Greenwich, southeast London, to The Depot bar in Pegler Square should have taken her just five minutes.

Her body wasn’t discovered until 5.30pm the following afternoon when a dog walker found her buried under a pile of leaves in nearby Cator Park.

Today the Metropolitan Police issued a CCTV video of the second man they are looking for.

It shows him dressed in grey tracksuit bottoms with a dark top and shoes walking past a building in Pegler Square, Kidbrooke, on the night Sabina was attacked.

The balding man is seen holding an orange object and turns to look over his shoulder before putting a hood over his head.

Police have also released still images of a silver car that they believe the man had access to.

They are appealing for anyone who knows him to get in touch with them immediately.

Investigators have also obtained CCTV footage showing the attacker striking Sabina on the head with an object minutes after leaving her home, according to the Telegraph.

A police source said the man then carried her over his shoulder towards Cator Park.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Monday, 20 September was inconclusive.

Urging anyone with information on the man in the CCTV footage to come forward, Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Louisa Rolfe said: ‘Anybody out there who may know who he is, or if you’ve seen that footage, and you have any information, no matter how small, please do get in touch.

‘This is an incredibly shocking and tragic incident. We’re working incredibly hard to secure justice for Sabina’s family who are at the forefront of our mind at the moment.’

Detective chief inspector Neil John, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said ‘an extensive trawl’ of CCTV was being carried out.

Sabina’s cousin Zubel Ahmed remembered her as a ‘beautiful soul’ who loved teaching, telling the BBC that she ‘was the most caring person – kindest, sweetest girl you could meet’.

Lisa Williams, the head of Rushey Green Primary School where Sabina taught, said her colleagues and pupils are ‘taking our time to reflect and process the devastating news’.

In a statement, she said: ‘We have shared the details about the vigil with our school community and some people may be attending on a personal level to privately pay their respects.

‘As a school we are taking our time to reflect and process the devastating news we received this week, and will be commemorating Sabina in our own way.’

Her death comes after the public outrage and protests over the abduction and murder of 33-year-old marketing executive Sarah Everard as she walked home alone in south London in March.

A vigil for Sabina is being held on this evening at 7pm at Pegler Square and people who cannot attend are being encouraged to hold a candle at their doorstep at the same time.

Reclaim These Streets, a campaign group involved in organising the vigil, said it is ‘angry and heartbroken’ about her murder.

The 38-year-old man arrested yesterday is still being questioned in custody. It is the second arrest Scotland Yard has made in connection with the attack.

On Saturday, detectives arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of murder before he was released under further investigation.
