A Conservative Party member of parliament has called for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to lose their royal titles after the first instalment of the couple’s new series aired this morning.

The series, titled “Harry & Meghan”, saw its first three episodes drop on the streaming service Netflix at 8am.

MailOnline report Bob Seely MP as accusing the Duke and Duchess of ‘monetising’ their titles, as well as making ‘aggressive’ and ‘unbelievable’ attacks on both Britain and the Royal Family.

They go on to state that the MP is tabling a Private Members’ Bill in order to facilitate the Privy Council to downgrade their status.

The legislation would reportedly amend the 1917 Titles Deprivation Act, which was originally introduced to allow for the stripping of royal titles and peerages from those who supported the enemy in World War I.

Bob Seely has been the member of parliament for the Isle of Wight since 2017.

While the legislation proposed by the backbencher is unlikely to become law, the MP reportedly described its introduction to the house as a “start.”

The original Netflix series is a joint project with Harry and Meghan’s company, Archewell Productions.

The six-part docuseries is the first production to result from a deal that was reportedly signed in 2020 with the streaming service, which was allegedly worth up to $100 Million, according to Mirror Online.

The first episode opens with the message “This is a first-hand account of Harry & Meghan’s story, told with never before seen personal archive” and sees the couple give insight into how they met and the initial stages of their relationship.
