Toddler crawls through White House's upgraded metal fence
A toddler managed to squeeze through the White House’s multi-million dollar upgraded metal fence.
US Secret Service Uniformed Division officers, who handle security at the White House, came across the tiny intruder on Tuesday.
Officers ‘encountered a curious young visitor along the White House north fence line who briefly entered White House grounds,’ stated Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
‘The White House security systems instantly triggered Secret Service officers and the toddler and parents were quickly reunited,’ he said.
Access to the White House complex was restricted during the reunification. Officers questioned the parents before letting them go.
It may have been the first intrusion on the White House complex since the fencing was upgraded in recent years. The fencing has been doubled in height to about 13 feet tall, but the distance between pickets has increased an additional inch to 5 1/2 inches.
The upgrade costed about $64million, according to the Daily Mail.
There are previous incidents of children getting stuck on the fencing.
