The pretty little town named the best place in Britain to live for commuters

A pretty little Essex town has been named the best for commuters in Britain, with the journey into London only 23 miles.

There are no shortage of trains to the capital as Billericay residents can choose from any of the 90 a day, with the fastest train being only 31 minutes.

During 2022, houses in Billericay sold for an average of £546,917, with the average price for semi-detached homes being £481,703 and 17 new estates in development.

The area was also praised for its education, with 16 primary schools, six high schools and sixth-form colleges. The percentage of schools with an Ofsted rating of “outstanding” is 23 percent.

Billericay had the lowest crime rate on the list, with 44 reports for every 1,000.

The town is set in well-wooded countryside and is home to historic sites such as Chantry House, Ingatestone Hall and Stock Windmill.

There are a number of green spaces in Billericay including Mill Meadows, Norsey Wood Nature Reserve, Lake Meadows and Queen’s Country Park.

Estate agent Mackenzie Smith chose the top 10 commuter towns using categories including train availability and ticket price, house prices, crime rates and school Ofsted reports.

They analysed 100 towns in the southeast to shortlist the best places to live around London.

Also included on the estate agent’s list of best commuter towns are Earlswood in Surrey, Stevenage in Hertfordshire and Fleet in Hampshire.
