The English village that turns into a ‘beautiful winter wonderland’

Christmas couldn’t get more picturesque for Britons than for those living in a sleepy English village that evokes Charles Dickens’ classic novels.

Broadway, in Worcestershire, is dotted with stunning Georgian homes draped in wisteria and is known locally as the “Jewel of the Cotswolds”.

The village is worth visiting all year round, as the summer lights up the sandy exteriors of local properties. But in the winter, it appears straight out of a Christmas storybook.

Locals have leaned into this branding, with tourist representatives eager to attract people looking for classic festive scenery.

They have dubbed Broadway an “unforgettable and magical sight” people won’t want to miss.

Visit Broadway has said the village is the best picture-perfect recreation of a classic Dickens novel the Midlands has to offer.

The site states the village becomes a “beautiful winter wonderland” each year, and pictures show the town alight with decorations sitting in the windows of its Georgian homes and trees in the local square.

The description adds: “The red chestnut trees that line the High Street are illuminated by traditional fairy lights.

“The lights, glowing against a backdrop of Georgian architecture, perfectly captures the timeless image of a classic Dickens Christmas setting.”

“The Christmas lights in Broadway really are an unforgettable and magical sight.”

Posting on TripAdvisor, one reviewer, Chris L, said he was happy to find the village “all dressed for Christmas”, when he visited in December last year.

However, Broadway is more than its lights, as visitors can also enjoy the many pubs, cafes and tea rooms on offer along the village’s picturesque high street.
