Speaking to talkRADIO, conservative commentator Calvin Robinson slammed the “sly” takeover of free speech by “mob rule” in the UK and demanded politicians do more to protect it in a furious rant. His comments come as it was revealed on Saturday that the teacher at the centre of a religious row is “afraid for his life and the lives of his family” after showing a cartoon of the Muslim Prophet Muhammed during a lesson at Batley Grammar school in Yorkshire back in March. The action prompted a massive backlash from parents and forced the teacher into police protection.
Mr Robinson said: “I would never force my beliefs on anyone, I would never shut down anyone else for having different beliefs.
“I think that is the way this country was founded and it always has been.
“It is veering very dangerously into censorship waters at the moment.
“And it seems like blasphemy laws are coming in under a sly method of people using mob rule.”

He slammed: “If people are afraid to speak their mind that is censorship.”
Mr Robinson added: “Up in Batley and Spen this teacher did what other teachers have been doing in that school for a long time, teaching this lesson the same way (showing the cartoon).
“And someone found out, got offended and the mob took hold of this school and essentially said ‘you can no longer do this’.
“The head teacher capitulated, the teacher himself is now pretty much afraid for his life and for the lives of his family and I think it is absolutely atrocious.”
Batley: Protesters chant outside grammar school
Mr Robinson went on to call out politicians who are currently standing to contest the Batley and Spen seat to speak up for free speech in the constituency.
He said: “There is obviously a by-election going on in Batley and Spen right now.
“And I would have thought that these parties, these political parties, would be out there supporting him, standing up for him and standing up for free speech.
“And the idea that in this country we can ridicule different religions and have ideas and express them!”
