The public squares and landmarks of major cities around the world were covered in Ukraine’s national colors on Thursday, in a vibrant and international show of support for the country ahead of the anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

Londoners draped Trafalgar Square — and themselves, along with at least one pup — in the blue and yellow of Ukrainian flags during a vigil jointly organized by the Ukrainian and U.S. Embassies in the city, while the Eiffel Tower lit up the Paris skyline with Ukraine’s colors.

Demonstrations of solidarity with the Ukrainian people were also held in Brussels, where toys and teddy bears representing the thousands of Ukrainian children forcibly transferred to Russia were laid out across the Rond-Point Schuman near the city’s European Quarter. The area is home to several European Union buildings, including the European Parliament, which was also lit up in yellow and blue on Thursday.

In Australia, Ukrainians and their supporters marched to St. Mary’s Cathedral Square in Sydney with a bullhorn as part of a rally honoring 365 days of Ukrainian resistance.

In Prague, projections in blue and yellow splayed across the Czech Interior Ministry building. And in front of Berlin’s famous Brandenburg Gate, where thousands of people protested Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a year ago, residents once again gathered for a vigil, creating a giant peace sign in flickering candlelight.
