London snow: Primrose Hill busy during wintry weather

Snow fell across several parts of the country this weekend, with large parts of the country experiencing snow or sleet by mid-morning on Sunday. The Met Office has yellow weather warnings for snow, with drivers being urged to take care on icy roads. Four coronavirus vaccination centres were closed in Wales due to safety concerns down to the snow on Sunday. But are schools closed tomorrow?

Schools across England and Wales are only open for vulnerable children and children of key workers during the third national lockdown.

All other children must learn remotely.

After Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the lockdown in early January, he said schools would need to offer remote learning until at least mid-February.

However, the Health Secretary Matt Hancock has now indicated pupils may not return to school until after Easter.

Much of Britain was covered by severe Met Office snow and ice weather warnings on Sunday.

Many of these warnings, covering large parts of the country remain in effect on Monday.

Highways England warned that the snow had caused collisions on the M3, M27 and M25 in southern England, with the agency urging drivers to only travel if absolutely necessary.

In light of the continued risk of ice on the roads overnight, many parents are questioning if schools will remain open on Monday, January 25.

Schools across the country may be closed to all pupils, including vulnerable children and children of key workers, due to the snow this week.

The weather forecast overnight on Sunday advises that more snow is expected over parts of Wales and central and southern England.

This snow will gradually ease leaving clear spells and icy stretches.

Clear spells, icy patches and a few patches will also impact northern and western areas of the country.

The temperature across the UK will feel very cold and frosty on Sunday evening and overnight.

On Monday, the Met Office predicts the cold conditions will continue.

The day will begin with a very cold and frost start.

But most areas will then become dry, fine and bright.

Conditions will be cloudier in the northwest where there may be some showers again.

Temperatures will feel very cold generally throughout Monday.
