Royal WARS: How Prince Harry comment sparked Meghan Markle family FEUD

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have welcomed their new royal baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor this week and given a glimpse of the newborn to the world. Although the royal tot has been introduced to great-grandparents the Queen and Prince Philip, with doting grandmother Doria Ragland a supportive fixture during his arrival too, questions remain as to whether the rest of Meghan’s family will meet the new addition. The tensions with Meghan’s side of the family came to a head over the royal wedding in May 2018, when her father Thomas Markle Snr was embroiled in a set of staged paparazzi photos, and did not attend his daughter’s special day.

However, a royal documentary revealed that the moment that “lit the blue touch paper” under the Markle family feud really occurred much earlier, when Prince Harry made comments about how he and Meghan had spent Christmas in 2017.

Channel 5 programme “Meghan and the Markles”, which aired earlier this year, looked at the moment that sparked the Markle family war.

Prince Harry spoke to BBC Radio Four in December 2017 about how he and the Duchess had spent Christmas at Sandringham with the rest of the Royal Family.

In response to whether Meghan would need to get used to any new festive traditions, he said the Royal Family were “the family, I suppose, she’s never had”.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton commented: “That really lit the blue touch paper as far Samantha, Tom and the rest of them were concerned.

“They felt that she had a family.

“She was trying to ghost the Markles out of her life, and they felt real resentment that here is this woman trying to deny her Markle background.”

Meghan’s half-sister Samantha Markle also spoke to the documentary about the incident.

She said: “The first thing I thought was ‘I don’t think Harry has been given the full story’.

“Something was not right. Though we weren’t the classic family together on schedule for every holiday, we were family.

“Then we questioned why… why would she be embarrassed about her family, why would you need to set the stage differently?

“It was starting to feel like she wasn’t reaching out to the family.”

Meghan’s father Thomas Markle Snr has responded to the happy news of the birth of royal baby Archie this week.

The 74-year-old spoke to The Sun about his new grandson.

He said he is sure the son of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity and honour”.

He added: “God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen.”

Meanwhile, the Duchess’ half-brother half-brother Thomas Markle Jnr  said: ”Hopefully this baby will help mend the family rift – we’d all love to meet the baby and become a part of his life, especially my dad.”
