The royal is a well known football fan and was quick to congratulate the side via the Kensington Palace Twitter account. On a night of remarkable drama, Liverpool managed to overturn a 3-0 away defeat by bettering that result at Anfield. They managed to score four goals, coming out to win 4-3 and earn a place in the final.

William tweeted: “Well done Liverpool – an incredible result, what a comeback! W.”

The post gained thousands of likes, with many welcoming William’s contribution.

William is currently the President of the Football Association in England, which regulates the sport.

He is also known to be a massive Aston Villa fan.

The result means Liverpool are in their second European final in as many years.

Last year, the eventually lost 3-1 to La Liga side Real Madrid.

Fans and players were in tears as they dumped Lionel Messi and Barcelona out of the competition.

They will now face Tottenham or Ajax after doubles from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum.

The crowd bellowed their famous song with Kenny Dalglish and co looking emotional in the stands.

Jurgen Klopp could hardly talk and his players were visibly moved by the reaction with James Milner crying on the pitch.

But he managed to tell reporters: “The whole game was too much.
