Royal FURY: How Prince William fired ‘THUNDEROUS’ reaction after Kate Middleton jibe
Kate Middleton and Prince William met while studying at the University of St Andrews. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were friends for some time before their relationship turned romantic and, like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, both of them dated other people before choosing to settle down together. However, one of William’s former flames was at the centre of a fiery encounter at a party attended by the royal couple.
Carly Massy-Birch was William’s love interest before he fell for Kate but, even after their break-up, the two remained close as Ms Massy-Birch lived across the road.
In 2011 book “The Making of a Royal Romance” by Katie Nicholl, the royal expert claims how a game of “never have I ever” at a university party provoked a “thunderous” reaction from William.
The game sees a group of people take turns in stating something they have never done – and if one of the group has done the thing in question, they must drink a shot.
Ms Nicholl notes that one attendee at the party recalled: “When it was Carly’s turn to play she announced, ‘I’ve never dated two people in this room,’ knowing full well that William was the only one who had because Kate was sitting next to him.”
William is said to have “shot a thunderous look” at Ms Massy-Birch before whispering under his breath: “I can’t believe you just said that.”
The party-goers are said to have been left “in shock” at the confrontation, and Kate is believed to have spoken to Ms Massy-Birch very little since then.
A source told Ms Nicholl: “We knew they were together but it was the first time William confirmed his and Kate’s relationship in public.”
Prior to the incident, Ms Massy-Birch is said to have already been “grating” on Kate due to her close living situation with her ex.
Years later, all the complications from the beginning of their relationship are in the past as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoy their family life with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The relationship has had its ups and downs, though.
The pair had two break-ups, the most notable coming in 2007.
However, after the most serious split of their relationship, the couple were soon reunited.
Royal author Katie Nicholl even claims they made a wedding pact in 2007 and Kate “got her prince”.
The couple married in 2011, a year after announcing their engagement, and tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in front of millions of well-wishers.
