The memoir, which the Duke of Sussex said will touch upon the “experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him” over the past four decades, will teach the royal’s wife more about him than she thought, a source close to the couple said, adding that Harry had given his ghostwriter JR Moeringer, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, access to unearthed documents as they “spent months going through his private photo album, journals, emails and so forth”.

The source said: “This narrative that Meghan essentially stood over Harry as he wrote the book is way off the mark.”

Speaking to HeatWorld, they added: “It naturally brought up some extremely raw feelings and surprise anecdotes, many of which came as a huge shock to Meghan when she read through the manuscript.”

Meghan attracted to Harry’s ‘bad boy’ image

Prince Harry first revealed he was writing a book in July 2021.

Saying he was speaking “not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become”, he promised to unpack the “highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned” as a member of the Royal Family.

Publisher Penguin Random House said at the time: “In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.

“Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous and uplifting human story.”

The source close to the Sussexes added when speaking to HeatWorld that as Meghan was attracted to Harry’s “bad boy” image, she is likely to love him even more now.

They said: “Meghan knows Harry had a very lively past – she wouldn’t have found him nearly as appealing if he hadn’t lived life to the full and got everything out of his system before they settled down and committed to a long-term future.”
