Revealed: The adorable present Prince George received from US President
George turns six today and several pictures were released of the prince, including two casual shots of him in a replica England football shirt. This means it was six years ago that he received a very special gift from President Barack Obama – a handmade rocking horse with the presidential seal on its saddle. The beautiful rocking horse was created by Oklahoma woman Jackie Wilson who described it as an “honour” and a “one-in-a-lifetime opportunity”.
Mr Obama also sent a polo mallet carved from an oak tree on the White House’s South Lawn to the future king.
The rocking horse was displayed in the Royal Childhood Exhibition in Buckingham Palace for several months in 2014, alongside other royal toys.
These include Prince Andrew’s miniature Aston Martin DB5 with rotating license plates and a working smoke screen he received when he was six.
George and his parents, Prince William and Kate, were able to thank the President for this gift when he visited Kensington Palace in 2016.
The adorable two-year-old George shook hands with the President in pyjamas and a dressing gown.
Mr Obama and the First Lady, Michelle, crouched down so they were at eye-level with the young prince.
He then hopped on top of the rocking horse to show them how much he enjoyed the wooden toy they had given him.
Kensington Palace tweeted out several pictures of the meeting, one with the caption: “Prince George meets The President and First Lady of the United States.”
Another read: “Prince George thanks Barack Obama for his rocking horse, given to him when he was born.”
The President later described George as “adorable” and joked that what the prince was wearing was a “breach of protocol”.
He said in his White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech: “It’s not just Congress. Even some foreign leaders have been looking ahead, anticipating my departure.
“Last week Prince George showed up to our meeting in his bathrobe.
“That was a slap in the face. A clear breach of protocol.”
The President and First Lady met with the Cambridges during a three-day visit to the UK, where they also attended a private lunch with the Queen and played golf with David Cameron.
Mr Obama’s second term ended at the end of 2016 and he was succeeded by Donald Trump.
