REVEALED: Princess Charlotte’s striking resemblance to the Queen when she was four

The likeness between Charlotte and her majesty has been remarked upon on a number of occasions. But with Princess Charlotte’s birthday coming up and a new photo set to be released, will she continue to look like the monarch? Princess Charlotte will turn four on May 2 after she was born in 2015.

A picture of her great-grandmother aged four has many similarities.

The photo taken in 1926 shows a great likeness to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s daughter.

Analysis carried out by Hassan Ugail, Professor of Visual Computing at the University of Bradford at the request of Express.co.uk has proved the resemblance between the Queen and Charlotte.

Professor Ugail used cutting-edge techniques to examine images in minute detail.

He put his skills to work comparing shots of three-year-old Charlotte and a young Princess Elizabeth at roughly the same age.

In three pictures of the Queen set alongside two of Charlotte, all had a similarity index of more than 62 percent.

He said: “They are indeed strikingly similar.

“Usually, if a comparison between two images return 70 percent or higher we consider it to be the same person.

“In this sense, I feel some existing facial recognition systems may even fail to distinguish between the two, given the corresponding images are fed as input for comparison.”

The results of Professor Ugail’s latest analysis did not surprise James Brookes, editor of royalcentral.co.uk

He told Express.co.uk: “It’s definitely something that’s been noticed in the past.

“From the photos, what strikes me most is the similarity with the Queen’s smile.

“It will be very interesting as she grows up to see how she changes, and who she ends up looking like.”
