Commentator Kevin Maguire argued the Queen has been forced into having a very public row with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ahead of their Oprah Winfrey interview. While speaking on Good Morning Britain, Mr Maguire admitted that it was unusual for the Royal Family to have such a public spat. He admitted that Meghan Markle may have been subject to unfair treatment but she has behaved like a diva.

Mr Maguire said: “You can be team Harry and Meghan or you can be squad Queen.

“But you cannot dispute that this is a family hanging very dirty washing on the line for us all to see.

“It was supposed to be a fairytale but it has all become a nightmare.

“I don’t think it reflects well on either side when I look at this.

“I can imagine Meghan has married into a family, married for love and had great excitement about going there.

“Then you go into a family that is pretty cold, it is all about hierarchy and protocol and you have got to curtsy to your granny-in-law.”

Mr Maguire admitted that Meghan may have suffered while in the Royal Family.

However, he also argued Meghan was not completely innocent and excused for her behaviour.

Meghan Markle and Harry ‘heading for irrelevance’ says Neil

He said: “She is not completely innocent on her side either.

“The whole Royal Family exists and survives, it is accepted and we pay for it because it has a certain mystique around it.

“It is supposed to be rooted in public services and selflessness, it doesn’t look like that now.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey is set to be broadcast on Sunday.

Preview clips of the sit-down chat have been shared on social media this week to promote the event.

The interview was initially scheduled to last 90 minutes but the timing has now been amended to two hours.

Prince Harry also featured in part of the discussion, with the Duke of Sussex discussing his relief at being able to support Meghan Markle contrary to his mother.

He suggested the move away from the Royal Family last year was an attempt to avoid “history repeating itself” in what appeared to be a clear nod to Princess Diana’s own experience as a member of the Royal Family.
