Sophie, Countess of Wessex has been a part of the Royal Family for many years. She married Prince Edward, the Queen’s youngest son, in 1999, and the couple has two children together. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Sophie has been one of the hardest-working members of the Royal Family.

Sophie has volunteered for a number of causes while the UK has been in lockdown.

From helping out at food banks, to video calling NHS staff, Sophie has been a firm fixture on royal social media channels over the last few months.

Most recently, Sophie volunteered for St John Ambulance service, and a special video message was shared on the service’s Twitter page from Sophie herself.

Sophie said: “Hello, it’s the Eve of St John’s Day and I’m absolutely thrilled to be in Gosport where I’m actually looking and helping to try and put some of the facilities together and equipment together that you are at the receiving end of.

“But more than anything I wanted to say a huge thank you.

“Thank you to the whole of St John Ambulance; all of our wonderful volunteers, who have stepped up above and beyond during this coronavirus pandemic.

“Thank you for everything that you’ve done, and are continuing to do. Over 150,000 hours of voluntary service – it’s quite staggering. And you should be so proud of yourselves.”

Sophie’s hard-working attitude and presence throughout the pandemic has garnered her a lot of support from royal fans in recent months.

Joe Little, Managing Editor of Majesty, told People Sophie has acted like “a royal key worker”.

He stated: “She is making a difference in a very understated, very ‘Sophie’ way.”

Sophie’s positive attitude during the pandemic is likely to have caught the attention of the Queen, who is known to have a very good friendship with the Countess.

According to a source, the reason the Queen and Sophie get on so well is that Sophie shares the Queen’s outlook on the importance of family.

A royal source confirmed to PEOPLE: “They are very close.”

The source added that Sophie and the Queen get on so well because Sophie “is very family orientated, and the Queen appreciates that.”

Living nearby to Windsor at Bagshot Park in Surrey, the Queen often received visits from Sophie and her family prior to the lockdown.

Another sign of their close bond is visible at Christmas, as Sophie is often chosen to travel with Queen to church on Christmas Day morning.

According to royal experts, who visits the church with the Queen is a sign of the monarch’s favour.

A former royal equerry told the Sun: “If Sophie Wessex is staying at Sandringham then you can pretty much guarantee the Queen will ask her – usually last thing on a Saturday night – if she would like ‘a lift’ to the church.”

“And the same happens at Balmoral. The Queen likes to be completely calm before church and she finds Sophie’s presence soothing.

“Who gets the backseat is also one of those quirky royal ways that signals who is in favour.

“For example, Princess Anne may be staying at the same time, but how often do you see her in the Rolls?”
