Queen brings BACK trusted royal aide to ‘KEEP AN EYE’ on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
Her Majesty has appointed Sir Christopher Geidt as her permanent lord in waiting, two years after he stepped down as her private secretary. He will be the Queen’s “eyes and ears” now the Sussexes have split households with Prince William and Kate. An insider told the Daily Mail: “Her Majesty values Lord Geidt’s wise counsel. This new role gives him a formal status again.”
Sir Christopher is chairman of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and he will work closely with former actress Meghan, who was recently made vice-president of the organisation alongside husband Harry.
He has already been spotted with Meghan when she attended an event at King’s College London on International Women’s Day.
The source added: “This was all part of the plan to introduce the Duchess to royal life. Lord Geidt will be Her Majesty’s eyes and ears.”
The monarch’s new appointment follows reports that she put her foot down over Meghan and Harry’s bid for total royal freedom.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Harry and Meghan were breaking away from the Cambridges at Kensington Palace.
The royal couple are hoping to build a global “Sussex brand” of philanthropy and humanitarianism.
But Her Majesty and Prince Charles reportedly rejected Meghan and Harry’s demand for an autonomous court over fears they would “just go off and do their own thing”.
Instead, their new household will be based at Buckingham Palace under the Queen.
A source told The Sunday Times: “They wanted their household to be entirely independent of Buckingham Palace, but were told ‘no’.
“There is an institutional structure that doesn’t allow that kind of independence.
“The feeling is that it’s good to have the Sussexes under the jurisdiction of Buckingham Palace, so they can’t just go off and do their own thing.”
Meghan and Harry are due to move to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor in the coming weeks ahead of the birth of their first child.
Speculation has been swirling of an alleged rift between the brothers and their wives since Meghan and Harry confirmed their plans to move house.
