Princess Michael: The Controversial Royal airs tonight at 8:55pm on Channel 5. The documentary profiles the Czech-born member of the Royal Family, who married the Queen’s cousin, Prince Michael of Kent in 1978. Royal biographers and journalists discuss controversies that have marred the Princess’ life, and speculate whether the royal will hit the headlines again.
Most notably the documentary explores how the Princess’ father’s SS past embroiled the Windsors in a number of lurid tabloid stories in 1985.
However Princess Michael also caused controversy in 2014 when she dubbed older members of the Royal Family “boring” on Canadian television.
In an interview with media tycoon Conrad Black on Canadian channel Vision TV, Princess Michael insisted she would not talk about the Royal Family.
However when asked about Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, she said: “Of course we’re thrilled to have a beautiful young married couple with a baby.

“Let’s hope there are more marriages soon because I think to have that young generation is terribly good for the people.
“The people love to see happy young people and I think the older generation are a bit boring for most people.”
In the same interview the Princess, who was once dubbed “Princess Pushy” by Viscount Linley, the son of Princess Margaret , was asked about Princess Diana.
The royal caused a stir when she stated that Diana was “uneducated” and that growing up without a mother made it “much harder to cope” with her royal status.
She said: “She was my next door neighbour at Kensington Palace and I must say I was very fond of her, very attached to her.
“She had an enormous amount of goodness in her.
“Like probably many people of little education who find themselves, like pop stars or film stars, suddenly lauded by the whole world, it is very difficult if you have not had a mother bringing you up who was quite stern and strict.
“She did not have a mother bring her up and she did not have much education, so it is much harder to cope with eulogy.”

Princess Michael added: “She had her two sisters but they were doing their own thing and she was the youngest and on her own, and her mother went to Australia when she was 10 years old or something and that is tough.”
Her comments sparked fury amongst royal experts, with biographer Lady Colin Campbell saying Princess Michael was “quite wrong” to call the older royals “boring”.
Lady Campbell told Express.co.uk in 2014: “She is talking rubbish.
“The Queen and Prince Philip have led fascinating lives and are great company.
“In private they both have a wonderful sense of humour and so do Charles and Camilla.
“You only have to look at how crowds turned out for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to see what the public think.
“They do not find the older royals boring.”
Speaking in 2014 Ashley Walton, who is co-author of Prince Philip: Wise Words And Golden Gaffes also told Express.co.uk: “Philip is 93 this year but he is anything but boring.
“In many ways he and the Queen are far more interesting than the younger royals because of what they have experienced in their long lives.”
