Prince William heartbreak: Duke of Cambridge ‘hurt’ by Harry’s furious reaction to advice

Prince William opened up to a royal aide after being shunned by Prince Harry for voicing his concerns over the speed at which his relationship with Meghan was moving forward, the authors of Finding Freedom have claimed. Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their newly-released book: “William told an aide he was ‘hurt’ that his brother didn’t see that he really was simply watching out for Harry’s best interests.

“The two brothers had spent a lifetime, after all, relying on each other in the wake of their mother’s death.”

A source close to the Cambridges depicted the close relationship Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, had enjoyed until that moment.

They told the biography’s authors: “William and Kate love Harry.

“They felt that they looked after him.

“William brought his brother up a lot of the time, provided a parental role and what that actually meant.”

Mr Scobie and Ms Durand have claimed the feud between Harry and William started when the Duke of Cambridge sat down with his younger brother to discuss his blossoming relationship with Meghan in 2017.

According to sources reported in the book, William told Harry: “Don’t feel like you need to rush this.

“Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.”

The authors claimed Harry’s furious reaction, which eventually led the brothers to become colder than ever before with one another, was due not just to the fact he had perceived William’s comment as snobbish but also because he was tired of their old dynamic.

The book read: “In those last two words, ‘this girl’, Harry heard the tome of snobbishness that was anathema to his approach to the world.

“During his ten-year career in the military outside the royal bubble, he learned not to make snap judgements about people by their accent, education, ethnicity, class or profession.

“Removing Meghan from the equation, Harry was also tired of the dynamic that had become established between him and his older brother.

“There had come a point when Harry no longer felt as though he needed looking after.

“There was a thin line between caring and condescending.

“Just because he went about his life differently than his brother didn’t make it wrong.”

The authors claimed two other members of the Royal Family were discussing his new relationship as well as a high-ranking courtier.

Prince Harry was “aware of the talk”, according to the book.

And his protective attitude towards Meghan pushed him to distance himself from whoever was criticising his then-girlfriend and relationship.

Harry and William’s deteriorating relationship brought the Duke of Sussex to have a weaker bond with Prince Louis than with Charlotte and George.

After having outlined how the Duke of Sussex used to find time to pop by Kate and William’s home to play with their two children or bring them presents before the brotherly feud started, the book read: “In fact, Harry had spent less time with Prince Louis than the others because of the growing tension between him and his brother after the baby’s birth on April 23 2018.”
