Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship with their father King Charles has been “hot and cold” over the years, according to a royal biography.

In 2018, Charles celebrated his 70th birthday with a formal photo session including Prince William, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Princess Kate.

But in Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s biographical book Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan the authors described the photo op as an “absolute nightmare”.

Despite it being King Charles’s birthday, Prince William, 41, and Prince Harry, 42, reportedly did not try very hard to ensure that the event came together.

The book claims that the brothers – who are currently estranged – can be “hot and cold with their father”.

Scobie and Durand wrote: “Neither William nor Harry made much of an effort to make themselves available.”

In Harry’s memoir Spare, the Prince revealed that there was already a brewing tension within the royal household.

He claimed that Meghan and Kate argued after the former referenced Kate’s “baby brain because of her hormones” after the birth of Prince Louis.

Still, photos were taken of Meghan and Harry standing in the back with William and Kate while Charles and Camilla sat on a bench with their grandchildren in the foreground.

Yesterday, to mark King Charles’s 75 birthday, Prince William shared a number of photos but notably did not mention Prince Harry.

The Duke of Sussex did feature, however, in the official royal Instagram account’s tribute to King Charles. Prince Harry also shared a rare phone call with his father to mark the occasion.

The feud between the brothers has been growing since Meghan and Harry moved to California in 2020 but tensions exploded earlier this year when Prince Harry released his memoir Spare.

The book levelled a series of accusations at the Royal Family including against William and Kate. Prince Harry is said to want an apology from the Firm for its alleged mistreatment of Meghan Markle before any rapprochement can be had.
