Meghan Markle, 38, and Prince Harry’s decision to step down as senior royals was unprecedented and questions are still being asked about what prompted their bombshell decision. The couple’s extraordinary royal exit has made them the subject of no fewer than four new biographies due to come out later this year.

Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Meghan and Harry: The Real Story by Lady Colin Campbell, Meghan: Misunderstood by Sean Smith and historian Robert Lacy’s book William and Harry: The Friendship and the Feuds are four new biographies about the couple that have already been announced.

However, it seems likely there will be more to come.

In the first speech, Harry gave following his and Meghan’s bombshell announcement he touched on how they had come to the decision.

Speaking at the Sentebale charity dinner in London last January, the Duke of Sussex said: “Our hope was to continue serving the queen, the Commonwealth and my military associations without public funding.”

Harry added: “Sadly that wasn’t possible. I’ve accepted this knowing it doesn’t change who I am, or how committed I am.

“But I hope that helps you understand what it had come to, that I would step back from all I have ever known to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life.”

Meghan and Prince Harry have been based in Los Angeles with their one-year-old son Archie Harrison since March and are likely to remain their for the foreseeable future.

While the couple have kept a relatively low profile since stepping back from the royal bubble they will need to maintain a public presence if they are to achieve financial independence from the crown.

The upcoming books are also likely to put Meghan and Harry back in the spotlight.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “A central reason for the breach between Harry and Meghan and their public roles as senior working royals was, we understood, their desire for privacy for themselves and also for their son Archie.

“Harry is haunted by Diana’s fate, though her relationship with the press, which ended so tragically, was also symbiotic.”

“It seems ironic that no less than four books dealing with their relationship and all too brief period as senior working royals are due out in the coming months.”

“All of this will keep the controversies surrounding the couple in the news.”

Meghan and Harry had hoped to launch their new organisation ‘Archewell’ soon after their royal withdrawal, however, it is understood the project is on hold amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Fitzwilliams added: “When the pandemic permits, they will undoubtedly launch their non-profit organization Archewell.

“Their brand will undoubtedly have a huge global pull.

“However, with so much exposure, privacy will be in short supply.”

On Wednesday it was confirmed Meghan and Harry have signed up New York-based with public speaking agency Harry Walker.

The US agency boasts the likes of Michelle and Barack Obama and the Clintons on its books and is a likely fit for the former royal couple.

While they are unlikely to land their first speaking gig before the coronavirus pandemic subsides, they are expected to earn money giving addresses at forums and corporate events in future.
