Meghan Markle has been defended by Australian TV hosts who called out the “double standard” she is facing. The Duchess of Sussex’s backlash was compared to what Prince Andrew has received since allegations against him and his late associate, Jeffrey Epstein, came to light. 9Honey presenters Shelly Horton and Ben Fordham discussed the royal gender divide.
Ms Horton told viewers: “We are obsessed with the royals but there is a bit of a he said-she said divide.
“I feel like the females in the Royal Family get a pretty rough trot and the men get off scot-free.
“I mean with the allegations against Andrew.
“That has had huge issues, in that it’s been in the media.”
She continued: “But it was kind of pushed to the side so that more hate could be poured onto Meghan.
“For what? Nothing. She married the guy that she loved.
“I think it’s a little bit of a double standard.”
Mr Fordham agreed: “When you think about it, Fergie was on the outer of the Royal Family because she had her toes sucked.”

He added: “Whereas Andrew was on a place labelled ‘Paedophile Island’.
“Of course, he claims that he’s completely innocent of all of those allegations.
“But he was still involved with Jeffrey Epstein even after Epstein had been accused and found to be someone of of ill repute.”

Mr Epstein was arrested in 2019 following allegations that he was trafficking underage girls, but died in prison while awaiting trial.
Prince Andrew maintains that he did not “see, witness or suspect any suspicious behaviour”. He has also been clear that he is willing to help “any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations if required”.
The Duke of York stepped back from public life and royal duties for the “foreseeable future” in 2019 following the backlash to his BBC Panorama interview about his relationship with Epstein.
An American woman named Virginia Giuffre, formerly Roberts, also claims she was ordered to have sex with the Queen’s son when she was 17.
Andrew has denied allegations he had any sexual contact with Mrs Giuffre.
