Oh dear! Bailiff gets OWN CAR clamped after parking over disabled man’s driveway
A bailiff, believed to be working in the East Mall area of Kent, had one of her front wheels clamped by a disabled man while on the job. The Daily Mail reports a woman, who social media users claim is a known bailiff to the area, reacted furiously to the clamping. A man filming the scene asks her, “A bit of your own medicine yeah?”
As she walked over to her car, the man filming says: “You shouldn’t be parked there love.”
“Bit of your own medicine yeah?
“You’re right in front of his van, he’s right to do that.
“You’ve blocked him in and he’s disabled.
“He’s clamped her car which he is right to do.”
The woman can be seen angrily walking around her car while speaking on the phone.
She claims that she was told by a woman earlier that day that it was fine for her to park on the curb over the disabled man’s driveway.
Her front tyre had mounted the kerb preventing the man from moving his vehicle.
The van has three disability stickers on the back window and later in the video he is shown walking towards the camera holding out his blue badge.
According to the video, posted to Facebook by Kieren Dawson, the woman’s car was stuck there for three hours.
In 2012, the Protection of Freedoms Act made it an offence to clamp a vehicle on private land without lawful authority.
Clamping of vehicles on a public highway can only be done by public bodies, such as the police, the DVLA or a local authority.
Vehicles are only typically clamped if the vehicle has no excise license, is parked in a no waiting or another restricted area.
Hannah Parsons, a solicitor at DAS law said the first thing to with an anti-social parking problem is to contact your local authority or the police.
But she said: “There is little the law can do to support home owners – even if a car blocks your driveway.
“The Highway Code can only help if the parked car is causing an obstruction to the road but not in relation to private land.”
