A woman who once claimed she took “an easy option” by receiving around £31,000 a year in benefits has become a grandmother at the age of 40.

Marie Buchan, dubbed Octo-mum for her eight children, appeared in an ITV documentary in which she said it was “very easy” to claim handouts. She only came off the financial support when she launched her own mechanics business for women in 2016.

But now her eldest daughter has given birth to a baby boy called Jayden at the age of 22.

Marie, who is back on benefits but looking for employment, has described becoming a grandmother as “amazing”.

Speaking to Birmingham Live, the former stripper said: “Becoming a nan is amazing and the Buchan family grows. He is five weeks old now. It makes me feel old being a grandmother at the age of 40 but life passes so fast.

“My oldest daughter who is 22 has just given birth to a lovely boy who she has named Jayden.”

Marie’s eight children are now aged between 10 and 22.

Marie, who lives in a housing association property in Selly Oak, Birmingham, recently called for anonymous social media accounts to be banned in a bid to end trolling. She revealed how she had been the victim of online abuse by unknown commenters for years.

Haters tell her she is a “s***” and say they “hope she dies”.

Last year, in response to the trolls, Marie said she was “addicted” to pregnancy and she doesn’t care what people think about her lifestyle.

“I am addicted to pregnancy, I’m addicted to birth and feeding, I’m addicted to that,” Marie said.

“I think a lot of people do see me as trash really. Lazy, useless, just producing babies for money.”
