Meghan Markle’s success ‘no longer in her own hands’ unlike ‘big time Royals’
Meghan Markle’s social media return discussed by expert
Meghan Markle now looks more like a Hollywood “wannabe” than a bona fide royal, according to royal commentator Richard Eden, as her “success is no longer in her own hands”.
The Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020, however without her link to the Firm Meghan has now supposedly lost her best claim to having genuine royal stardom.
In his Palace Confidential newsletter, the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden wrote about Meghan’s solo appearance at Variety’s Power of Women gala in Los Angeles where she gave interviews and posed on the red carpet like every other celebrity.
In contrast, Princess Kate this week attended a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace to welcome President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee of South Korea, an event which Mr Eden pointed out Meghan would have attended too as a royal.
He said: “[Meghan] couldn’t have looked less regal… just another celebrity waiting to be interviewed by a reporter for Variety magazine.

“She posed for photographers like the wannabe starlet she once was, before being rushed along impatiently by another guest.
“Her interview emphasised that success is no longer in her own hands. She talked about the unnamed “exciting” new projects that her television company, Archewell Productions, ‘can’t wait to announce’.
“But if and when she does announce them will depend entirely on their paymasters at Netflix.”

The royal expert acknowledged that when Meghan was a royal people would be queueing up to meet her, not the other way around, however Meghan and Harry have had some solo success.
They signed multi-million dollar entertainment deals with the likes of Spotify and Netflix, although their contract with Spotify was pulled after just one series of Meghan’s podcast Archetypes.
The Sussexes have had more luck with Netflix, producing their documentary series Harry & Meghan, which saw huge commercial success, with the series Heart of Invictus then coming out earlier this year.
There has been much speculation about the projects Harry and Meghan have coming up in the pipeline, as they have reportedly bought the rights to produce the Carley Fortune’s novel Meet Me at the Lake for the streaming platform.
Their continued work with Netflix may have angered the royals however, particularly as the latest series of The Crown has just dropped.
This series has attracted controversy for its depiction of Princess Diana’s ghost appearing to her ex-husband, then-Prince Charles, and Queen Elizabeth shortly after her tragic death.
