The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will likely “respond aggressively” to a threat from Thomas Markle to head down the legal route. The former Hollywood lighting director’s fractious relationship with his daughter has been played out in the public eye since before she married the Queen’s grandson.

And after years of being the focus of public attention, Thomas has said he is no longer willing to stand by and be separated from his grandson Archie and new granddaughter Lilibet.

After Meghan and Harry moved to the US last year, Thomas’ hopes of a reunion may have been raised.

Thomas lives in Rosarito, Mexico, a seven-hour flight from the Sussexes’ local airport in Los Angeles.

But while Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland has been brought into the couple’s new California bubble, Thomas has been kept at a distance.

The Duchess’ father, 77, is threatening to sue his daughter and son-in-law, whom he has yet to meet, for the right to meet his grandchildren.

Speaking at his home in Rosarito, he told Fox News: “I will be petitioning the California courts for the right to see my grandchildren in the very near future.”

Reports have suggested such action could be the “final nail in the coffin” for his relationship with Harry and Meghan.

Tina Wilson, a relationship expert, predicted a forceful response from camp Sussex.

She also claimed she is certain the legal action will make Meghan furious as she settles into her new life as a mother-of-two.

She told The Sun Online: “The Sussexes are likely to respond aggressively with legal paperwork back, if and when Mr Markle files his officially with the court of California.

“I am sure Meghan is furious with her dad’s latest interview and comments.”

Ms Wilson’s warning comes after Jonathan Sacredoti, a royal commentator, offered another grim assessment of Sussexes’ relationship with family members.

He claimed there is clearly a “growing divide between the Sussexes and the Royal Family” after Harry announced his memoir would be published next year.

The prince has never met his father-in-law who pulled out of attending the royal wedding at the last minute due to health issues.

He had caused major embarrassment for his daughter after being caught staging photos with the paparazzi.

Despite apologising on TV multiple times for his mishap, more than three years later Meghan and Harry have yet to forgive Thomas.

Ms Wilson said there is still clearly a lot of hurt in the broken relationship.

She claimed: “Bringing the grandchildren into the public eye is stepping on sensitive ground although not seeing his grandchildren must hurt an awful lot.

“One thing that father and daughter have in common is that neither are good at letting the dust settle, so likely this isn’t the last drama we’ve heard from them.”

Meghan and Harry are said to be planning to bring baby Lilibet back to the UK to be christened in the presence of the Queen.

Meghan has not seen the monarch since March 2020 when she carried out her final royal engagements.

Harry on the other hand had two dramatic reunions with his family this year, the first in April for Prince Philip’s funeral and again in July for the unveiling of a statue of his late mother, Princess Diana.

No one in Harry’s family has met Lilibet, who was born in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on June 4.

Meghan’s mother on the other hand enjoys a close relationship with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
