Meghan Markle branded ‘spiteful’ over Royal Family exit in astonishing rant

Mr Bower, who is Prince Charles’ biographer, attacked the most recent statement made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, making his personal dislike of the couple known. He told Good Morning Britain he believed the statement was a “threat” to destroy the “93-year-old sovereign of this wonderful country”. The 73-year-old writer said: “The statement was really spiteful fury from Meghan.

“It was rude to the Queen. What is spiteful is, she married into the Royal Family not that long ago and she bailed out.

“She has absolutely no status apart from being attached to the Royal Family.”

Before her marriage, Meghan Markle was a successful actress on hit TV show, Suits, as well as running lifestyle website, The Tig.

At the time of her engagement, she spoke of how her new royal platform would allow her and Prince Harry to focus on issues important to them.

Meghan, who was an advocate for the UN and a global ambassador for charity, World Vision, worked on a number of womens’ based projects during her time as a senior royal.

But presenter Bill Turnbull was forced to wade into the heated comments made by Mr Bower on the morning programme.

He said: “This is just turning into an attack on Meghan, herself.

“What we’re really trying to focus on here is the tension around a couple trying to make it in the world.”

Susanna Reid also seemed to back her co-presenter: “But Tom, what might have been spiteful was if they said actually, the Queen has no jurisdiction and we are going to continue using the title ‘royal’.

“But they didn’t say that. They said we are no longer going to use the term.”

However, journalist Afua Adom hit back as she defended the Duchess of Sussex’s status as a “successful actress” who had done “a lot of charity work”.

Ms Adom, also contributing to the programme, said: “Before Meghan Markle married Harry she was a successful actress in her own right.

“She was known for doing a heck of a lot of charity work.

“It is completely disingenuous to say without Harry she would have no status.”

When Mr Bower attempted to intervene with another opinion, Ms Adom re-emphasised her point.

She added: “I think what is spiteful in this instance is the way in that this whole statement has been interpreted.

“No other part of the statement has been talked about where Harry talked about the work he will continue to do with the armed forces and Invictus Games.

“Nobody has commented on the fact that they want to continue working with the Royal Family and with the Queen, but they’re not going to do that.

“Like you said, it would be spiteful if they said they were going to use the title ‘royal’ anyway.”

Mr Bower is well-known for his unauthorised biographies which have drawn criticism.

The royal biographer said in this case it was most important to consider the opinions and feelings of the Queen in the situation.

Calling the UK a “wonderful country”, he urged the royal couple to consider their actions to avoid slighting the Queen.
