Meghan Markle BACKLASH: Kensington Palace Instagram followers INCREASE after royal split

The Kensington Palace Instagram page had 7.1 million followers before Meghan and Harry moved into Frogmore Cottage some 25 miles from the palace they shared with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Sussexes launched their own Instagram account, leaving the Kensington Palace page to William and Kate. The Kensington Palace page now has a follower count of 7.6million, 500,000 more than before Meghan and Harry went their own way, and a glance at social media appears to show this is no coincidence.

One Instagram user, appearing to breath a sigh of relief at the Sussexes’ departure, did not at all hold back her feelings on the subject.

She said simply: “Kate and William finally!”

Another added: “Finally! Now it’s time to follow @kensingtonroyal.”

Another user said: “Okayy it’s time to follow again @kensingtonroyal aft they out!”

Another added: “This page will now recover its Royal prestige.”

Meghan and Harry have been busy posting on their new separate page.

Their first post asked followers not send them gifts when their first baby is born this month, but to instead donate to charities.

The Lunchbox Fund, which provides school meals to poverty-stricken children in Africa, is the first to benefit.

The couple have shared just 11 posts since the account – called @sussexroyal – was created three days ago.

One announced Prince Harry had teamed up with Oprah Winfrey on a film project.

The account broke records immediately after it was created, with it gathering a million followers in 45 minutes.

It came a year after 37-year-old Meghan deleted her own one and her defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig. The pair are following Princess Eugenie, the National Theatre, Well Child, the London Marathon, Clarence House and Kensington Palace to name a few.
