Meghan Markle baby: The reason Meghan could have baby at Frogmore Cottage
Prince Harry, 34, is extremely protective of Meghan Markle, 37, and wants to do all he can to keep her safe from the savage trolls who fire abuse towards the Duchess of Sussex. The couple made it clear they want to keep details around the birth of their first child as private as possible in a shock statement last week. The real reason Meghan may have a home birth is to keep away from critics at a very sensitive time.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “Harry is fiercely protective of Meghan and of course they both chose to move to Frogmore Cottage specifically for the privacy they would get to bring up children there.”
Meghan’s reported desire to have a home birth at Frogmore Cottage is directly linked to her wish for privacy, according to Mr Fitzwilliams.
While it is clear Harry and Meghan seriously value their privacy, social media has made it harder for them, according to Mr Fitzwilliams.
He said: “It’s a different era and you have very upsetting trolling.
“The biggest problems Meghan faces are the trolls and members of her own estranged family who are a real problem – the majority of the press has been vastly supportive.
“But there are moments when you need privacy and the royal goldfish bowl is all-consuming.
“It’s a very precious time in Meghan’s life, she’ll want down time and some time with her family. She’ll want to feel like she can be more independent, so I think that’s what they’re doing asking for more privacy – undoubtedly.”
Harry made his wish to protect Meghan very clear at the start of their relationship.
A public statement was issued on behalf on Harry in which it warned attacks made against Meghan had “crossed the line.”
The statement issued in November 2016, said that Harry himself had never been comfortable with the intense public interest in his personal life, but that he had developed “a thick skin to cope with it.”
Part of the statement sought to defend Meghan, it read: “But the past week has seen a line crossed.
“His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment.
“Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”
The statement continued: “Some of it has been hidden from the public – the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of papers; her mother having to struggle past photographers in order to get to her front door; the attempts of reporters and photographers to gain illegal entry to her home and the calls to police that followed; the substantial bribes offered by papers to her ex-boyfriend; the bombardment of nearly every friend, co-worker, and loved one in her life.
“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.
“It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm.
“He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’.
“He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.”
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, posed outside the Lindo Wing for pictures will all her newborns, but it is unlikely Meghan will do the same.
A statement from house Sussex explaining their wish for privacy, said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.
“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.
“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
