Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have divided royal fans following their decision to step down as senior members of the Royal Family. The pair also stunned many as they announced a Netflix deal earlier this year. The announcement reignited a row among royal fans over whether the couple should still be referred to as royals and maintain their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

During an interview with Express.co.uk, royal expert Marlene Koenig argued the couple could make a simple change to make those disgruntled by Meghan and Harry’s continued use of their duke and duchess titles happy.

She added that previous royals had also implemented this change to avoid controversy in non-royal endeavours.

Ms Koenig said: “Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could remove the HRH and the title Prince, are they going to do that? No.

“My feeling and suggestion is that when Harry and Meghan have the credits of the projects they are working on, they just use Meghan and Harry, Sussex.”

Ms Koenig insisted this has been done in the past by other royals for their private ventures outside of normal Royal Family duties.

She continued: “Remember when Prince Edward ran his production company, Arden, he used Edward Windsor.

“He didn’t use His Royal Highness Prince Edward, he used Edward Windsor.”

Ms Koenig also suggested royal advisors should put forward this compromise to Harry and Meghan.

Ms Koenig added: “There is a lot of precedence for using just the geographic part of your title for your professional name.

“That would solve a lot of problems, that would be the perfect way out.”

The pair received criticism for speaking on politics following a video with TIME magazine.

In the video, both Meghan and Harry insisted it was important to vote in the upcoming US election and to say no to aggressive and divisive messages

Despite not instructing viewers who to vote for, Meghan and Harry were criticised and condemned as some interpreted their message as support for Joe Biden and opposition to Donald Trump.
