The 18-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene after falling from a building in Liverpool city centre at around 10.40pm on Tuesday evening.
Police are appealing for witnesses but have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He is known to the victim, Liverpool Echo reports.
A large police presence remains on Irwell Chambers off Union Street, which is in the heart of Liverpool’s city centre. It is near several businesses, apartments and office blocks.
Detective Inspector Craig Turner, of Merseyside Police, said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation, and would appeal to anyone who has any information at all to come forward.
“Door-to-door and CCTV enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone with any information to please come forward.
“If you saw or heard any suspicious behaviour in Irwell Chambers or Union Street last night please get in touch.”
