Man, 30, charged after police officer suffers serious burns during eviction in Newquay
A man has been charged after a police officer suffered serious burns while helping with an eviction in Newquay.
Blagovest Hadjigueorguiev, 30, is accused of GBH with intent against an officer, a charge of attempted GBH against a second officer and arson, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
The officer, who is 51, a former soldier and well known throughout Newquay, sustained “a number of burns to his arms and legs” during the incident on Friday morning, the force added.
He was helping bailiffs carry out a civil eviction from a stretch of private land in Trevenson Road.
The unnamed officer was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro where his injuries were described as severe but not life-threatening.
Hadjigueorguiev will appear at Truro Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
