A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death at an industrial estate.

The man was found by the emergency services in a critical condition, and despite the efforts of the paramedics, the 60-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred at FedEx on Rother Way in Hellaby, Rotherham, at around 9.39am.

The victim’s family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.

A 48-year-old man from Sheffield has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody, reports Yorkshire Live.

The depot is in a business area full of transport firms that repair or sell HGVs, and it has left several drivers, including some who say they have worked at FedEx or used the depot in one way or another, dumbfounded.

Mathew Turner, who now works as a driver for an agency that collects deliveries from a business close by, said he was familiar with the FedEx depot but could not get himself to believe someone had been stabbed at the place.

He said: “You have to be kidding?

“No way anyone gets stabbed at FedEx. You could get stabbed here (A local pub for truckers) but surely not out in the open at FedEx.”

Mr Turner’s colleague, Sam, who also works in the logistics business, said: “This cannot be a real thing. This is not true. You are winding us up.”

Mr Turner added: “I have never come at this job yeah, and thought, let alone even worried I would get stabbed.

“I mean I imagine though I don’t want it, that I could die in an accident. Or get run over at a truck stop. But, stabbing?

“I don’t think anyone at all could ever think that. That you could die on the concrete dirt at a depot.

“Do you know what even happened? This is shocking.”

Sam added: “I mean HGV driving has its dangers. It’s a tough job. Lots of dangers. But stabbing at a depot is new for me.

“I think you would find its new for a lot of folks out here.”

South Yorkshire Police’s DCI Simon Palmer, who’s leading the investigation, said: “We are working hard to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident, which we know will be causing concern in the community.

“Our officers remain on the scene while we carry out our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 260 of November 2.
