Horror as house collapses in London

A woman was also rescued from the ground floor of the affected East London property.

The building in Walthamstow is a mid-terrace property that has been converted into flats.

The roof is believed to have collapsed into the loft space, according to reports.

A cordon has been established.

One officer said the area could be shut for 48 hours, according to MyLondon.

The authorities were first called at 9.40am this morning.

In a statement released following the incident, the London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters were called to a roof collapse at a mid-terraced house converted into flats on Blackhorse Road in Walthamstow.

“Most of the roof of the building collapsed into the loft space.Firefighters led a woman to safety.

“There were no reports of any injuries.”

The statement added: “The Brigade was called at 9.40am and the incident was over for firefighters by 12.27pm.

“Two fire engines from Walthamstow Fire Station and a fire rescue unit from Edmonton Fire Station attended the scene.”

London Ambulance, quoted in MyLondon, also said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene, including members of our hazardous area response team (HART) and an incident response officer.

“We assessed one woman at the scene, but she required no medical intervention.”

Three buses – 158, 230 and W11 – are on diversion while the cordon remains in place.
