Eight fire engines and roughly 60 firefighters have been called to a fire at a restaurant on Burwood Place in Edgware Road, London.

Part of a restaurant on the ground floor of a parade of shops and offices is alight, London Fire Brigade said in a statement.

Fire crews were called shortly after 11am on Wednesday, June 29.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

Members of the public are being advised to avoid the area at present.

Station Commander Matt Williams, who is at the scene, said: “The fire has broken out in a ground floor restaurant and crews are working hard to bring it under control.

“The blaze involves the restaurant’s ducting (extraction) system.

“One of the Brigade’s 32m ladders is in use as an observation tower.

“Edgware Road has been closed and there is heavy traffic nearby so we would advise people to avoid the area where possible.”

Fire crews from Paddington, Euston, Soho and Kensington fire stations are at the scene.

Edgware Road is currently blocked northbound on Old Marylebone Road to Praed Street, BBC Radion London Travel tweeted.
