Nile Gardiner, a British commentator and former aide to late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be stripped by King Charles III “swiftly and decisively” of their royal titles after Robert F. Kennedy’s daughter, Kara Kennedy, praised Meghan and Harry for making their damaging claims of racism and neglect against the Firm during their bombshell sit-down with Oprah Winfrey last year. Mr Gardiner wrote on Twitter: “An insult to the British Monarchy. Meghan and Harry should be stripped of their royal titles swiftly and decisively.” In a recent interview, Ms Kennedy, the niece of late US President John F. Kennedy, claimed the Sussexes challenged the Royal Family’s “power structure” with their public criticism of the Firm.
Ms Kennedy, whose association The Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is to award the Ripple of Hope gong to the Sussexes on December 6, told The Telegraph when discussing Meghan and Harry’s achievements: “They went to the oldest institution in UK history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn’t have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health.” After saying the Sussexes have the “moral courage” to discuss racial justice, she added: “Few would have the courage to question their colleagues, family and community about the power structure they maintained, and this is what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have done.” Following the broadcast of Ms Winfrey’s interview with the Sussexes, the Firm famously issued a brief statement in which it described the issues raised by the Duke and Duchess were “concerning” and that, while “some recollections may vary”, they would be taken seriously and addressed privately by the family.

UK commentators calls for Meghan and Harry to be stripped of royal titles
British commentator Nile Gardiner called for the titles of Meghan and Harry to be removed.
He wrote on Twitter: “An insult to the British Monarchy. Meghan and Harry should be stripped of their royal titles swiftly and decisively.”
His message referred to statements recently made by Kara Kennedy, the daughter of late Robert F. Kennedy, who praised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for speaking up about “structural racism” within the Firm.
Ms Kennedy, whose organisation will award the Ripple of Hope gong to the Sussexes in early December, told The Telegraph: “They went to the oldest institution in UK history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn’t have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health.”
After saying the Sussexes have the “moral courage” to discuss racial justice, she added: “Few would have the courage to question their colleagues, family and community about the power structure they maintained, and this is what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have done.”
Ms Kennedy appeared to refer to the bombshell interview given by the Sussexes to Oprah Winfrey in early 2021.
