King Charles’s six demands that led to ‘Pampered Prince’ nickname

Having been born into the Royal Family, King Charles is unsurprisingly used to a life full of certain privileges, however some of his habits may seem a little bit unusual.

In his new book Endgame, Omid Scobie claims that the King’s habit of making very specific demands to his royal staff have earned some rather unflattering nicknames, such as the “Prince of Wails” and the “Pampered Prince”.

He writes: “The King lives a life of luxury and comfort that is even alien to other members of the royal family—a throwback to monarchs of the past. Those who know him, serve him, and write about him often compare him to Louis XIV, the French monarch who transformed a hunting lodge into one of the most extravagant palaces in the world.”

Here Express.co.uk takes a look at six of the strangest requests Charles has made of his royal staff.

Eggs

The King has always been a strong promoter of a healthy diet, and often eats produce from his own Highgrove estate, including eggs from his hens for breakfast.

But he does like them prepared for exactly the right amount of time, four minutes to be precise, to make them soft-boiled or “they’ll be sent back to the kitchen in infantile fury”.

Bed linen

The royals travel a lot for work, so naturally they like to bring some home comforts with them.

According to Mr Scobie though, Charles insists on bringing one-thousand-thread-count bed linen with him wherever he goes, which of course must be perfectly steamed before.

Pyjamas

Being comfortable at night is crucial to getting a decent amount of sleep, vital for any busy royal with a full day of engagements ahead of them.

As well as his perfectly steamed bed linen, His Majesty likes his pyjamas pressed, or there will be “hell to pay”, Mr Scobie claims in his book.

Shoelaces

Charles is extremely environmentally conscious and as such does not like to buy new shoes much, preferring to employ a cobbler to repair them, something we could all learn from.

But his demands regarding his shoelaces is a little more strange, as he reportedly likes his old ones switched out for a new, freshly ironed pair as soon as they look a little bit worn.

Toothpaste

Another key part of the King’s bedroom routine is making sure he has exactly the right quantity of toothpaste squeezed out ready for him to brush his teeth.

In Endgame Mr Scobie claims it has to be precisely one inch of toothpaste on his toothbrush, which must be tricky to get exactly right each time.

Toothpaste dispenser

Possibly the most bizarre alleged habit that Charles has is the use of his “crested silver dispenser”, which is used to get his toothpaste out.

This “ridiculous extravagance” may sound completely alien to most people, but for the King it seems to form part of his normal daily routine.
