Kate Middleton and Prince William unleashed to ‘reestablish balance’ after Andrew scandal

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are among the most senior members of the Royal Family due to the Duke’s position in the pecking order as second in line to the throne. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge earlier this week were revealed to have filmed a special Christmas programme alongside baking star Mary Berry in which they discussed the work they do with their supported charities. Speaking to Nine News Australia, royal commentator Juliet Rieden suggested Kate and William could help improve the Royal Family’s PR in after the Prince Andrew scandal.

Ms Rieden said: “It’s going to be a lovely, heartwarming show.

“One of the things Prince William says on the show is, he talks about how important charity has been to him and his family.

“How it’s been passed down from his father, his mother, his grandmother – he talks about his grandmother and grandfather being the epitome of service.”

The commentator continued: “This show is going to readdress the balance a bit on the optics on the Royal Family.

“A bit of good PR and who better to do it than Kate and William.”

Royal experts have warned the recent interview Prince Andrew gave BBC Newsnight could have a negative impact on the Royal Family due to the widespread criticism the Duke of York sparked.

But the royals have also been praised to their quick response to the fallout, resulting in Andrew giving up his duties for the foreseeable future and other members stepping up in support of the Queen.

The Duchess of Cambridge earlier this week appeared alongside Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace to welcome world leaders to a banquet marking the 70th Anniversary of NATO.

And the programme Kate and William recorded with Mary Berry could further help the Royal Family improve relations with the public after the turbulent month the Queen has faced.

The Cambridges shared some behind-the-scenes pictures with Ms Berry on their Kensington Royal Instagram account, showing the Duke and Duchess were all smiles during the recording of the A Berry Royal Christmas show.

The photos, which included snaps of Kate and William with Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, were accompanied by the comment: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have joined forces with cookery legend Mary Berry to prepare festive food to thank all those working and volunteering over the Christmas period.”

Kate and Mary Berry were spotted together before as the pair share a common passion for the outdoors and gardening.

The Great British Bake Off presented looked at ease with Kate as the pair came together at a “Back to Nature” festival at RHS Garden Wisley in September.

According to a source, the Duke and Duchess were joined by Mary on several different engagements over the past couple of months and showed her some of the charities and patronages close to their hearts to explain a bit about why they do what they do.

The source said they wanted to show the TV legend why they care so much about these organisations. Mary would then come up with ideas for recipes for the event.

A Berry Royal Christmas is set to air on BBC One at 8.30pm on December 16.
