Kate delights children on school trip with surprise chat while running for train
The Princess of Wales surprised and delighted a group of schoolchildren after an impromptu meeting while she was rushing to catch a train. On Tuesday afternoon, the 41-year-old was carrying out a royal engagement to mark Mental Health Awareness Week in the city – alongside Dame Kelly Holmes and Zara McDermott. Following the visit, Kate went to catch a train, at what appeared to be Bath Spa railway station, to her home in Windsor.
In a short clip posted on Twitter by Platform Rail, Kate and her entourage can be seen rushing into the station.
The schoolchildren moved to the side to let the senior royal pass, with one teacher in the group calling to Kate, saying: “Hello, hello”.
Kate then appears to stop to acknowledge the group, before asking where they are were going on their trip.
One member of the group tells her that they are going to Warminster, with Kate giving a thumbs up and telling them to have a “good school trip.”
Kate also asks what they are learning about, with one stunned teacher telling her: “Trains and orienteering.”
Security then beckoned the Princess of Wales to carry on, just as the doors began to beep.
As Kate moved towards the train, she waved to the excited children and teachers.
Platform Rail, a railway-based education scheme, tweeted – along with the clip: “Wow – a right royal surprise for students waiting for a train home with us today.
“HRH The Princess of Wales taking time to say hello and ask the children about their trip was a better end to the day than we could ever have planned!.”
