Britain has removed Portugal from its quarantine-free travel list, the country’s transport minister said on Thursday, essentially shutting down the UK’s leisure travel market and deepening the pandemic crisis for airlines. Airline EasyJet also said no new countries would be added to the so-called green list. The UK relaunched travel on May 17 following more than four months of lockdown, with Portugal the only big destination open to UK travellers.
Speaking to Sky News, one British holidaymaker said: “It’s a nightmare. It’s like the equivalent of almost two thousand euro to fly back to the UK, lockdown in a hotel for 14 days which is just crazy.”
Another added: “It’s very frustrating. It’s going to impact my work when I get back.”
A third person said: “It’s been announced Portugal is going on the amber list which I think is a little bit unfair to everybody.
“You have to have a system where either it’s open or it’s closed. There are families bringing out kids and there are people who have booked holidays for a long time.
“If it’s closed, close it but the stress involved.”
