Hospital patients in north west 'will reach April levels' by end of month
The number of patients admitted to hospitals with coronavirus in north west England are expected to reach the levels of the April peak ‘before the end of this month’.
It would mean 3,000 people in hospital with the virus – and health officials fear not even a full lockdown could prevent numbers rising even higher.
The stark warning was included in a briefing document prepared by Blackburn and Darwen Council and seen by the Health Service Journal.
It’ states that it is now ‘extremely likely’ hospital admissions will match the peak of the pandemic within 17 to 22 days, due to the high number of infections in the area.
