Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana referred to her younger son as the spare to the heir, Prince William, who currently stands next in line to the throne. Speaking on Sky News Australia, contributer Prue MacSween stated it is a good thing that Harry is “spare way down the line” as the Duke currently sits fifth in the line of succession, after William and his three children.
Ms MacSween stated “thank god” Harry falls further down the line as “he’s not fit, he’s not emotionally prepared to be anything but a spare.”
Speaking on the death of his mother at the age of 12, she added: “Its very tragic what he’s been through.
“But, we all have tragedy in our lives, and we have to get on with it.”
The contributer added that its going to be a “terrible ruckus” for the Royal Family.
Speaking on the latest True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat about the memoir title, royal biographer Ingrid Seward said ‘Spare’ is “what [Princess] Diana used to say”.
She added: “[She said] William was the heir, and Harry was the spare, so maybe that’s [why]… it’s a very odd title.”
Also peaking on the latest Royal Beat, The Sun’s royal editor Matt Wilkinson claimed that we “can read so much into that term ‘spare’.”
Harry memoir 'hasn't been much revised at all' says Richard Palmer
The date of the release, January 10, is one day after Harry’s sister-in-law’s birthday.
Kate will celebrate her 41st birthday on January 9.
Writing for Australian outlet news.com.au, royal expert Daniela Elser described the chosen date as an “odd choice”.

Speaking this week on Australia’s Sunrise, entertainment editor Peter Ford said having the date falling in the New Year means that the 38-year-old is “missing out on that very lucrative Christmas market”.
Speaking on earlier reports, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last month, Harry wanted to make last-minute changes, Mr Ford said: “Their insiders, and this is New York Times, have told them that Prince Harry did want to make changes to [the memoir] in recent months.”, adding that it is “unclear” whether the Duke was allowed to do so.
