Prince Harry could be left facing considerable amounts of “animosity” from a wider portion of the Royal Family if he returns for the Coronation, expert Jack Royston suggested. The Duke of Sussex, 38, has reduced the number of appearances he put in alongside his relatives since stepping down, only attending the Jubilee celebrations last year and the state funerals of the Queen and Prince Philip.

Royston argued Harry’s claims in his book Spare could result in cold shoulders from more relatives than just the ones he levelled criticism against.

He said: “They’ve just said a whole load of new stuff, stuff about family members that they’ve never said before, this time with all the names thrown in there.

“They’ve said it about William. They’ve said it about Kate. They’ve said it about Camilla.

“But also, the wider family, I’d be really interested to know where people like Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex where all of these family members come down, and it’s entirely possible that there is animosity towards Harry for Spare that extends beyond the kind of core of the royals who get mentioned in it, i.e. Charles, Camilla, William, Kate.”

The royal correspondent did suggest Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, with whom Harry and Meghan have a close relationship, could still show the couple some support should they come back.

He added: “They might actually have some royals who are supportive of them, particularly Beatrice and Eugenie.”

The Newsweek reporter noted the couple’s last appearances with the Royal Family were tightly linked to the late Queen, and even those events had been a “tough call” for Harry and Meghan to return for.

With their popularity on the line, Royston suggested the Duke and Duchess might take extra time to consider whether to return to the UK for the Coronation.

He continued: “The Platinum Jubilee was a tough call, but also it was kind of a no-brainer because you know it’s a once in a 70 years moment celebrating the Queen.

“Harry and Meghan have always said that they had no problem with the Queen, you know, the rift was with other family members and they always were very vocal in celebrating the queen and her reign.

“So, it was always really probably a no-brainer that they would go to that. However, when they did go, they did get booed at St Paul’s Cathedral.

“They got cheered as well, sure, but they did also get booed. They might actually have that experience lurking in the back of their minds.”

Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson earlier this month confirmed they had received an invitation to the ceremony scheduled for May 6.

However, they have not confirmed if they will be attending.

Reports released over the weekend claimed Meghan and Prince Harry have made a series of requests before making plans to return.

One of the demands includes an appearance on the balcony alongside the rest of the Royal Family.
