The Duchess of York believes the Royal Family should not judge Meghan and Harry for the publishing of Harry’s scathing memoir, Spare. Sarah Ferguson, who like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has had a rocky royal life, said “family is very important” as the couple are yet to announce whether they will accept their invite to the Coronation.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are yet to confirm whether they will attend the King’s Coronation in May although they have received an invite.
Their relationship with the royals is still tense after the couple’s numerous television interviews and the release of the memoir.
Despite the bitterness between the Sussexes and others, Sarah Ferguson said she has “absolutely no judgement” about the pair.
Talking to Fox 5 New York, she said: “Personally, I feel there should be no judgement on any level. Family unity is very important. In life, it’s the three C’s: communicate, compromise, compassion.”
Ms Ferguson also reflected on her own royal difficulties, including her divorce from Andrew which she spoke about with Oprah in 1996 — when she said royal life “is not a fairy tale”.
She added: “I divorced, went to America, wrote a book, went on Oprah, and did 12 years as the longest-running spokesperson of ‘Weight Watchers’.
“I looked to America to support me and to help me and I really can’t thank the American people enough for what they gave me and what they did for me.”
She added: “So, I believe very strongly that I have absolutely no judgement on any other person’s life, and I look at how much [Meghan] loves [Harry] and loves the children and gives him a love that he’s never had before. That’s how I look at it.”

In the past, Meghan and Harry described Fergie as the friendliest member of the Royal Family.
Speaking to Oprah in 2021, Meghan said Fergie taught her how to do a curtsey before she met Queen Elizabeth II.
When pressed about whether Meghan had “damaged” the Royal Family, she did not give a direct response.
She said: “It is absolutely not my place to answer that. She has made Harry very happy, and that is so nice.
“Honestly, he’s so happy with her. She really loves him. And I think that’s beautiful – and that Diana would be proud of him and her lovely grandchildren.”
In another interview with The Telegraph, Ferguson contradicted the Sussexes by denying she had any relationship with Meghan. She said she doesn’t really know Meghan and hasn’t “really met her” although she “thought she [Meghan] looked absolutely beautiful”.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed the couple had received an email invite to King Charles’ Coronation at Westminster Abbey.
Sarah Ferguson said she is yet to receive an invite to the event.
